Enrichment, Athletics and Extracurricular

At First Lutheran, we realize that a well-rounded education includes so much more than the core academic subjects, which is why we seek to provide students and parents with opportunities to learn and grow in as many ways as possible.

Spark Lab

Spark Lab is an introduction to German culture for students 1st through 4th grade.
The program is led by students from UT and in conjunction with the Goethe institute.

Parent & Family

Our Parent Teacher League works together to bring fellowships opportunities for
students and families like Trivia Night or Bingo as well as educational seminars for
parents and guardians. The PTL also works to fundraise for our school to make campus
improvements and to purchase items to enrich the student educational experience.

All Pro Pads is a unique group that meets monthly to help kids and dads (or other role
models) engage in meaningful conversations and activities that strengthen their
relationship.

  • To provide the child with the opportunity to practice Christian ethics
  • To provide the child with the opportunity to enjoy athletic activity and competition
  • To introduce the child to team concepts and emphasize their importance to strengthen school spirit.

As parents, you play a vital role in the athletic program at First Lutheran. Therefore, we ask that all parents do the following:

  • Support all students who are playing and encourage them to develop skills
  • Demonstrate a positive Christian attitude toward all students, coaches, officials, and opponents
  • Drop off and pick up children at appropriate times
  • Assist with necessary transportation arrangements for sports in which your children participate
  • Support students in their overall academic and physical health

Arts

The Art program at First Lutheran School is based on the Tennessee Curriculum Standards and taught in conjunction with Core Knowledge principles. Each grade level explores a different curriculum designed to enhance what students are already learning in the classroom.

Teachers help students grow in both skill and appreciation as they explore art history and develop their own artistic voice. By studying artists from the past and present, students learn to see the world with curiosity and purpose while using their talents to create meaningful work.

Students in the program experience:

  • Exposure to art history, including modern and ancient artists
  • Hands-on projects that mimic the styles and techniques of great artists
  • Exploration of a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, and mixed media
  • Opportunities to develop creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
  • Encouragement to express ideas and tell stories through art

Through it all, students use their skills to create unique masterpieces, building confidence, creativity, and an appreciation for the gifts God has given them.

Music & Drama

At First Lutheran, we believe every child has God-given gifts meant to be discovered and shared. Our Music and Drama program invites students from early childhood through 8th grade into a journey of creativity, confidence, and faith-filled expression. Through meaningful experiences, students grow as performers, leaders, and collaborators while learning to use their talents with purpose.

What students experience:

  • ECE through 8th grade choir participation
  • Live performances including singing at church, a Christmas program, and a spring musical
  • Each class leads chapel at least once a year
  • Middle school drama club covering acting, props, and production
  • Field trips to musicals and plays
  • Choir experience with a variety of music and foundational music theory

Through it all, students build confidence, teamwork, and joy, using their gifts to glorify God and impact others.
